About the Department
The Centre for Transdisciplinary Studies at SEC is a pioneering academic initiative that integrates knowledge from multiple disciplines to foster a holistic and problem-solving approach to learning. It offers diverse programs such as foreign language studies in Japanese, French, German, and Chinese, enabling students to access global opportunities and enhance cultural awareness. Heritage studies provide insights into India's rich traditions, folklore, architecture, and art, fostering a deep appreciation for cultural identity. The center also explores astronomy and Indian mathematics, incorporating ancient mathematical principles and celestial observations to enrich scientific understanding. Psychology courses help students grasp human behavior, emotions, and mental well-being, while design thinking nurtures creativity, strategic problem-solving, and innovative approaches to societal challenges. Theatre arts enhance communication, creativity, and storytelling skills, preparing students for expressive and confident interactions. Additionally, yoga and meditation promote physical and mental wellness, encouraging mindfulness and stress management. By integrating these fields, the center adopts a transdisciplinary approach that goes beyond traditional boundaries, creating an experiential and collaborative learning ecosystem. With expert-led seminars, research-driven exploration, and interactive projects, SEC’s Centre for Transdisciplinary Studies equips students with multi-dimensional perspectives, enabling them to think beyond silos and innovate for the betterment of academia, industry, and society.

The Major Works carried by the centre
- Educators mentoring session
The Centre for Transdisciplinary Studies successfully conducted an Educators’ Mentoring Workshop in January 2025, aimed at equipping faculty mentors with a strong foundation in mentoring principles. This program focused on effective strategies for supporting students facing challenges, guiding mentors in conducting counselling sessions with empathy and professionalism. Professor of Psychiatry at the Medical College, Dr. K. Raman, led five insightful sessions, sharing his expertise to enhance mentors’ understanding of student well-being.
- Learners Counselling session
Dr. K. Raman and team remains actively engaged in supporting students through weekly two-hour counselling sessions. Each week, he provides guidance to learners facing challenges, as recommended by their mentors. The feedback from these sessions is shared with mentors, enabling them to follow up effectively and ensure continued support. To facilitate these sessions, a dedicated counseling room is available, providing a comfortable and private space for meaningful discussions and interventions.
- Accenture Japanese Training
Accenture, in collaboration with SEC, is offering a three-year Japanese language training program for learners, covering levels N5, N4, and N3. This initiative not only equips students with language proficiency but also opens up job opportunities for them. Currently, student from the first batch is undergoing training, marking the beginning of a promising journey toward career advancement.
- JLPT N5 & N4 Training
The Centre offers specialized training sessions to support learners preparing for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), a globally recognized examination. These sessions are designed to enhance language skills and equip students with the necessary knowledge to excel in the test, opening doors to academic and career opportunities.
