  • Medical Instrumentation involves developing new devices that solve health-related problems by combining their recent advances knowledge in engineering, biology, and medicine to improve human health through cross-disciplinary activities. It integrates the engineering sciences with the biomedical sciences and clinical practice. It helps the students to spend their days designing electrical circuits and computer software for medical instrumentation.

THERAPEUTIC EQUIPMENT LABORATORY

  • Therapeutic devices typically fall into two categories: those that assist a patient in their daily activities, and those that assist medical personal in delivering therapeutic services. Patient assistive devices include hearing aids, visual aids or any other device that allows patients to perform tasks they otherwise would not be able to perform due to a physical limitation or disability. This includes medical ventilators, incubators, anaesthetic machines, heart-lung machines, ECMO, and dialysis machines and radiotherapy equipment.

MEDICAL IMAGE PROCESSING LABORATORY

Medical image processing has been established as a core field of innovation in modern health care combining medical informatics, neuro-informatics and bioinformatics. The field of medical imaging advances so rapidly that all of those working in it, scientists, engineers, physicians, educators and others, need to frequently update their knowledge in order to stay abreast of developments. Current advances in medical imaging are made in fields such as instrumentation, diagnostics, and therapeutic applications and most of them are based on imaging technology and image processing.

MEDICAL ELECTRONICS SYSTEM DESIGN LABORATORY

Medical Electronics Systems design is the process of defining the architecture, modules, interfaces, and data for a system to satisfy specified requirements. It could be seen as the application of systems theory to product development. The student should familiarize the electronic components and Medical sensors with PCB design and various processes involved. This course provides the knowledge in assembling and testing of the PCB based Medical electronic circuits.

The virtual instrumentation for Clinical Applications laboratory describes about the electrodes and the recording setup of various biological signals. It helps to understand about the electrical, non-electrical parameters and biochemical parameters.

HOSPITAL TRAINING

Students attend inplant training and internship at Saveetha Medical College and Hospital located nearby the Saveetha Engineering College Campus. The students are provided with real-time demonstration of all the medical equipment used in various units inside the hospital. At the end of the training students are asked to submit a report highlighting the practical knowledge acquired during the training period.
